Membership Benefits of a Professional Organization

Founded 60 years ago by a small group of workers dedicated to accident prevention, CSSE is now close to 4,000 members strong. Originally a provincially-based organization, CSSE is now Canada’s largest national and most established professional organization for Health, Safety, & Environmental Practitioners and Professionals.

Membership in the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering is the perfect means for health and safety professionals of all levels to expand their knowledge, enrich their expertise and explore future issues, strategies and trends. Through a comprehensive program of health & safety professional development courses, professional certification designations, annual Professional Development Conferences, etc. membership in CSSE will challenge your thinking and provide practical insight into emerging issues that allows you to transfer your knowledge to the health and safety programs in your organization.

In addition, membership will allow you to access resources through your local chapter or the National Office to assist in your professional career. Great networking opportunities are included with your membership through regular chapter meetings and presentations that allow you to meet with your peers in a relaxed environment and learn what is taking place in safety & health within your geographical area.

These are but a few of the great reasons to join CSSE and for a more detailed explanation of membership and its benefits (click here).

Certified Health & Safety Consultant Program

The Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation was instituted in 1994 by the CSSE and is one of the premier certifications for leading OHS&E Professionals.  The CHSC designation signals to employers, colleagues, clients, and to the public that the OHS&E Professional has met prescribed academic and experience standards and received specialized training beyond the normal technical knowledge and skills in the field.  While providing excellence in professional consulting within and to business and industry and government agencies at all levels CHSCs bring consultative leadership in workplaces and communities across the nation and around the world. For additional information, course offerings and a CHSC application form (click here).

Certificate in Health, Safety & Environmental Processes

The CSSE has partnered with the University of Fredericton to offer a certificate program in Health Safety and Environmental Processes. These courses are an on-line professional development opportunity for working safety practitioners that you can take at your own time, without travel or disruption of your own schedule. Technical and academic support is provided and the program is tailored specifically for the safety professional, and is offered in two levels. Courses can be taken individually in any order or as part of the Certificate program and participants receive Letters of Completion at the conclusion of each course, and a University Certificate following completion of each Certificate level.  For additional information about the certificate program, course offerings and how to enroll (click here).

 Professional Development Conference

An annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) is hosted by the CSSE in designated locations across Canada each September. The PDCs alternate between East and West each year and provide members with the opportunity to attend workshops to enhance their safety skills, listen to guest speakers providing the latest in information, tour a trade show with the latest in safety equipment and technology and network with fellow safety professionals and practitioners from across Canada and around the world. For additional information about the PDC including this year’s location and registration information (click here).
